Mireia Obón-Santacana is a nutritional epidemiologist with a Master in Nutrition and Metabolism from the University of Barcelona, and a PhD in Medicine from the same University. She has worked on the data of the European Prospective Investigation into Cancer and Nutrition (EPIC) study assessing the impact of diet, dietary biomarker and hormone levels on cancer risk, focused mainly on endometrial, epithelial ovarian and pancreatic tumors. She is also a clinical nutritionist, and has been a member of the Nutritional department at the ‘Hospital Comarcal de l’Alt Penedès’. She has also developed workshop activities at the Health Science Faculty Blanquerna (Ramon Llull University). She currently works between two institutions: The Disease Genomics-GCAT Lab Group (Institute Germans Trias i Pujol) and the Unit of Biomarkers and Susceptibility (Catalan Institute of Oncology). She is involved in the design and scientific development of the GCAT study (www.genomesforlife.com). The GCAT is a prospective cohort study that was designed to recruit general population from Catalonia, with the aim to evaluate and track multiple pathologies and quantitative hereditary traits. Her main research interests are related to diet, microbiome, lifestyle factors and health.
