ODAP gave a COST Training school: RISK MODELING IN COLORECTAL CANCER
The Oncology Data Analytics Program (ODAP) at ICO-IDIBELL, directed by Dr. Victor Moreno, organised a training school in the scope of COST Action “TRANSCOLONCAN”: Identifying Biomarkers Through Translational Research for Prevention and Stratification of Colorectal Cancer.
A total of 25 students from different European Institutes participated in this event that took place on 21 – 23 of January at ICO’s facilities. The TRANSCOLONCAN Action (https://www.transcoloncan.eu/) aims to use innovative translational research to identify colorectal cancer biomarkers for personalized medicine that improve screening, early detection and disease follow-up, as well as advanced functional characterization of the genetic variants and new therapy approaches. By bringing together participants from different COST countries, the Action facilitates the interaction and scientific collaboration between research groups and companies interested in the objectives described.
Dr. Moreno, with the help from his team (R. Carreras, F. Alarcon, H. Alonso, A. Díez) taught theory and practice of predictive modeling: analysis strategies, data preprocessing, statistics, bootstrapping, logistic regression, elastic nets, random forests, Mendalian randomization, calculation of genetic risk scores, building genetic risk models and integration of GWAS and gene-expression data.
Funded by the Horizon 2020 Framework Programme of the European Union.
