The GenRisk group aims to improve the prevention of several cancers under study through personalised strategies
    4/04/2026

The GenRisk strategic sub-programme, part of CIBERESP’s Research Programme on Epidemiology and Control of Chronic Diseases, aims to improve the prevention of several cancers under study through personalised strategies, so that genetic and lifestyle data can help to properly define how cancer prevention should be approached for each individual.

The annual meeting held late last year in Oviedo, and led by Víctor Moreno (ICO) and Pablo Fernández (CNE, ISCIII), focused on the presentation of recent results from initiatives carried out within the subprogramme on serum metabolomic biomarkers, gene-environment interactions and genome-wide association studies (GWAS) related to different types of cancer. Analyses of regional genetic susceptibility in Spain and methodological tools for genetic annotation were also presented.

Dr. Víctor Moreno and Dr. Ditsuhi Iskandaryan participated in the ESMO AI and Digital Oncology Congress 2025, held in Berlin from November 12-14.

They took the opportunity to present the latest results of the TANGERINE project, which aims to develop an artificial intelligence tool capable of predicting the response and toxicity to immunotherapy in patients with different types of cancer, as well as ExCaPT, a predictive model based on a transformative encoder designed to identify individuals at higher risk of developing cancer.

The ESMO AI conference aims to foster collaboration between healthcare professionals and digital health. It is an essential platform for oncology professionals to gain knowledge about advances in artificial intelligence and digital health, keeping them at the forefront of digital transformation in cancer care.
