Robert Carreras-Torres és investigador a l'Institut d'Investigació Biomèdica de Bellvitge (IDIBELL) a Barcelona des 2018, quan va rebre una beca individual MSCA. Va completar el seu doctorat en Genètica Humana a 2014 en el Departament de Biologia Animal - Antropologia de la Universitat de Barcelona. En 2014-2018, es va formar com a membre postdoctoral a la Unitat de Genètica de l'Agència Internacional d'Investigació sobre el Càncer (IARC) de l'Organització Mundial de la Salut (OMS) a Lió.
Els interessos professionals de Robert inclouen la integració de capes multiomicas (fenoma, genoma, transcriptoma, metagenoma) per a una millor comprensió dels trets complexos i malalties i la seva interacció amb el microbioma. A més, la identificació de relacions causals mitjançant la nova aleatorització mendeliana o enfocaments estadístics similars per a una millor avaluació de la predicció del risc a nivell individual i de la població.
